Mount everest - sagarmatha

Some people believe that the Everest region in Nepal is a journey that will get them close to obtaining Nirvana since it is more than just climbing and hiking. This region, which is in Nepal’s northeastern province, is in a league of its own, with massive glaciers, icefalls, the tallest mountains, deep valleys, precarious settlements, and hardy people battling the harshest circumstances nature could throw at them in the thin air of high altitude. A mix of profound cultural and spiritual experiences and physically demanding tasks that test your stamina and patience are present when traversing fabled Sherpa settlements. Serving the primarily Sherpa villages from their gompas are Buddhist lamas, monks, and nuns led by Rinpoches (reincarnate at mas) (monasteries).

Getting to Everest or Everest Base Camp requires a thrilling flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, followed by a walk up the Everest region to your Himalayan destination. For ardent trekkers, there is another switchback that begins in Jiri and travels through the mid-hills of Solu. This stretch of the walk is ethnically varied and offers stunning views of the area’s unique flora and fauna. As you climb and descend the cliffs and traverse the valleys, you gain the additional benefit of natural acclimatization.

If you choose Jiri, your tour to the renowned Sherpa settlement of Namche will be extended by around 10 days. For those with enough time, a 10- to 12-day trek through the Solu to Khumbu and Sagarmatha National Park is a fantastic route for acclimatization and for observing the shifting cultures, lifestyles, and customs as you move from lower to higher altitude towns. The park, which is a component of the Himalayan biological zone, was included on the UNESCO list of Natural World Heritage Sites in 1979. In addition to countless additional peaks that reach above 6,000 meters above sea level, the park is home to three of the world’s tallest mountains, including Everest, Lhotse, and Cho Oyu.

While traveling by plane saves time, walking from Jiri allows you to walk in Tenzing and Hillary’s footsteps before they conquered Everest. having more time to engage with the endearing individuals along Bazaar (3,500m). One of the few sites on earth with the rarest biodiversity and the tallest mountains is the Sagarmatha National Park, where Mount Everest is located.

Everest-from-Kalapathar

The “Roof of the Globe” remains the top attraction in the world for experienced mountaineers, a haven for alpine aficionados, and a destination on the bucket lists of adventurers from all over the world. Climbers and trekkers continue to hike to Everest Base Camp.

The Everest region has been regarded as a key to understanding Earth’s evolutionary history and serves as a habitat for several rare and endangered species, including the snow leopard, red panda, Himalayan black bear, musk deer, and Himalayan wolves.

The Mount Everest Region

Nepal boasts eight of the world’s tallest mountains and the world’s oldest Hindu and Buddhist sites. While Kathmandu valley is made of three ancient cities filled with enchanting medieval palaces, pagodas, temples, statues and stupas, the rest of the kingdom offers unparalleled adventure options with abundance in flora and fauna.

In this trek, we follow the footsteps of legends like Messner, Bonington and Hillary, up to Everest Base Camp (EBC) and experience how they felt during their quest to Everest. Home of the renowned Sherpas, the mountain hardy people and the realm of Everest, this region needs no introduction. The airhead at Lukla serves as the gateway to the region. The trek passes through the picturesque Sherpa village of Namche bazaar culminating in the ascent of Kala Patthar – from where the classic views of Everest and its surrounding peaks are available.

The Gokyo to Renjo La Pass trek is one newly opened, offering an exciting, fresh option for high-pass trekking through Khumbu. The most desirable time for this unforgettable trek is at the tail end of the monsoon season, when flowers blooming throughout Nagpala give trekkers the illusion of walking across a textured, riotously colorful carpet. The heavenly scent clears the mind wonderfully, and makes for a sweet slumber at night time.

The remoteness of the villages here, the caravan-esque travel of the locals down the mountain to do business at Namche, and the enormous glaciers all offer something unique to the traditional Everest Base Camp trek. Views of the big mountain and of neighboring Cho Oyo are astounding! The Renjo La Pass allows trekkers to cross between Gokyo and Nagpala, providing a gorgeous walk through towering mountains. This is in addition to the more picturesque views already afforded by hiking to Gokyo Ri, as opposed to the traditional day trip to Kala Pattar from Gorakshep. The mountains are, similarly, more spectacular on this itinerary: experience the enormous Ngozumpa Glacier and, from a ridge above Goyko, no less than four 8000-meter peaks! This trek is also less-traveled and, consequently, less crowded than is the classic base camp trek. With our experienced guides by your side, it’s guaranteed that you won’t miss a single, thrilling surprise of this glorious adventure.

Departure from Kathmandu

The Gokyo Cho La Pass Everest Base Camp Trek is more technically advanced than some of the other treks in the area – and therefore more adventurous! It encompasses all the ‘usual’ sights in the area, such as Namche Bazaar, Tengboche Monastery, Gorak Shep, and Everest Base Camp but also includes a visit to the Gokyo Lakes by crossing the high altitude Cho La Pass (5,330m). There are some long days of 8 to 9 hours but the majority are 5 to 6 hours in length. This is a stunning trek for those with stamina and a sense of adventure. Flying in and out of Lukla ensures the maximum amount of time is spent in the mountains. However, acclimatization is a must and this is done in the famous Namche Bazaar, from where it is possible to take a short, but steep walk to Syangboche for your first close-up of Mount Everest, Lhotse, Ama Dablam, and Thamserku.

On this excursion, you can also visit Khumjung Village and the Khumjung Hillary School, started by Sir Edmund Hillary to give back to the Sherpa people. This trek takes you through Rhododendron and pine forests, across a waterfall, and through high pasturelands, past Chortens, and fluttering prayer flags.  Coming close to the Ngozumpa Glacier trekkers are awarded for making the narrow and steep climb when they reach three of the Gokyo Lakes with their turquoise, clear water.  A highlight of this trek is the steep climb up to Gokyo Ri (5,357m) to view Mount Everest, Cho Oyu, Lhotse, and Makalu. This climb provides you with both stunning mountain views and acts as acclimatization for the long day ahead to cross the Cho La Pass. In order to cross the pass before the winds set in, it is necessary to start the day very early, around 4 or 5 am. It’s a tough day with the top of the pass being at over 5,300 m. Part of the trail is over ice, making it a real once-in-a-lifetime achievement! This feeling of achievement continues as the trekking route goes on to Gorak Shep, Everest Base Camp, and Kalapatthar, also known as Everest View Point.
