muktinath temple

For followers of both Buddhism and Hinduism, the Muktinath Temple in Nepal and its surroundings are a renowned pilgrimage destination. Nepal is home to a number of sacred places that are either associated to or belong to various gods and goddesses. This shrine region, which is part of the well-known Annapurna Circuit trekking circuit, is one of the most unique among them. It is located in the Mustang district of Nepal’s Mustang at an elevation of 3,710 meters, close to the Ranipauwa, and at the base of the Thorung La pass.

The Sanskrit words Mukti and Nath are the source of the word Muktinath. Nath stands for Master or God, whereas Mukti denotes Salvation or Moksha. Since Muktinath is also known as the sanctuary above the cloud, it is located at a greater altitude. Its surrounds’ captivating scenery gives us the impression that we are in another universe. Therefore, the location is equally important for both true pilgrims and trekking aficionados.

The temple is famous for its 108 stone faucets, which are built into a semi-circular construction, despite the fact that it has a modest footprint and a human-sized golden figure. They are all the same size and form. According to devotees, bathing in all 108 of the Kali Gandaki River’s ice-cold faucets will wash away all of one’s sins. The number 108 has a deep philosophical meaning that is connected to the nine planets, the zodiac, and the 27 lunar ecliptic segments.
